TITLE: Director of Operations – Professional Development

REPORTS TO: CEO
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
LOCATION: Syracuse, NY (Hybrid)
SALARY RANGE: $90,000 to $100,000

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Operations–Professional Development is a member of the senior leadership team working closely with the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This individual is responsible for monitoring and managing operational and administrative aspects of the Professional Development department (e.g., school-based partnerships, coaching, Online Academy, flexible consulting hours) in order to achieve growth targets.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Monitor and manage operational and administrative aspects of the school-based professional development program and related services, in order to achieve growth targets
  • Oversee financial projections, fiscal outcomes, business operations, and goal setting
  • Collaborate with CAO on development and implementation of overall strategic direction, and to oversee the coordination, integration, and delivery of the department’s programs, contracts, and related services
  • Make recommendations on strategy and investment in Professional Development programming
  • Collaborate with CAO to establish fees, schedules, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and assess Professional Development program outcomes
  • Provide input to the Marketing Director to assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing plan
  • Partner with the Development Director and CAO to seek funding opportunities (e.g., foundation grants, proposals, and other applications)
  • Manage and analyze utilization reports, performance reports, and capacity and quality outcome metrics
  • Assist in planning and supervising the logistics and recruitment of the independent contractors and employees who provide school-based professional development and coaching
  • Monitor the marketplace landscape for supply and demand assessments
  • Work with CAO to maximize client relationships and develop new business opportunities
  • Ensure sound management through developing, implementing, and maintaining necessary business policies and procedures related to the professional development function and ensure controls are followed
  • Assist CAO by managing supervision and guidance procedures regarding staff performance and staff development goals

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related subject with at least 5 years’ experience, not-for-profit experience helpful
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, interpersonal skills, and good judgment
  • Strong organizational abilities including collaboration, planning, delegation, program development and task facilitation
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences such as staff, clients, business partners, board members, and community leaders
  • Proven problem-solving ability; ability to identify and anticipate problems, analyze situations and recommend solutions
  • Successful proven track record with setting priorities
  • Excellent team player with experience in managing teams, supporting cross-functional collaboration, developing staff, and setting clear goals
  • Flexible and adaptable, ability to work within changing conditions and priorities
  • Knowledge of workplace learning strategies and industry practices related to learning, performance improvement, training delivery, learning technologies, and instructional design preferred
  • A strategic thinker who has a clear understanding of TRL’s place in the market, is goal focused, and can identify vulnerabilities and threats
  • Passion for the vision and mission of TRL and ability to communicate its work and mission to others
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage and propose new ideas, gain support from the organization and manage key risks and resources
  • Knowledge of the science of reading helpful
  • Experience formulating and overseeing program budgets
  • Proficient with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
