Science of Reading: A Defining Moment
The Reading League’s Winter Symposium sponsored by Voyager Sopris
The term “science of reading” (SoR) has become something of a buzzword in education. What does the term mean? What kind of research is included and why? What kind of evidence does the science of reading have that is compelling, promising, or even lacking? What are common misconceptions? How is it impacting policy and published materials? How are people interpreting it and why does it matter? These questions and many more will be addressed in a series of engaging symposium sessions to help all teachers and education leaders bring the findings from the SoR to the forefront so that all children can learn to read.
This event will launch The Reading League’s “Science of Reading: A Defining Moment” initiative. A team of stakeholders has formed a consortium to develop a shared definition of the SoR. During this event, we will provide the definition, its rationale, and provide calls to action for all stakeholders.
