Maria Murray, Ph.D., is the President and CEO of The Reading League, the Editor in Chief for The Reading League Press, and a nationally respected thought leader in the science of reading movement. She is a sought-after speaker, advisor, and advocate with decades of experience spanning higher education and advocacy.

Before founding The Reading League, Maria served as an associate professor for 10 years, teaching literacy assessment and intervention. She earned her Ph.D. in reading education from Syracuse University, where she also coordinated multiple federally funded early reading intervention grants.

Her accolades include being named Nonprofit Executive of the Year in Central New York and twice receiving the ’Cuse 50 Alumni Entrepreneur Award to celebrate the 50 fastest-growing alumni businesses. Maria has been featured in outlets such as Education Week, Edutopia, and prominent literacy-focused documentaries and podcasts.
