Appointment Marks First Full-Time Role Across The Reading League’s National Chapter Network
FORT WORTH, Texas, January 22, 2026 – The Reading League Texas (TRL-TX) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Patty Coté as its new executive director. This appointment marks the first full-time leadership position across The Reading League’s national chapter network and signals a significant milestone in the organization’s growth and its support for Texas educators and students.

“What started as a volunteer-driven effort has grown into something much bigger,” said Dr. Robert Rogers, president of The Reading League Texas. “To serve educators and students well across a state as large as Texas, we need full-time leadership. Dr. Coté’s experience and vision make her the ideal person to lead us into this next phase.”
Dr. Coté brings 30 years of experience in Texas public education, having served as a classroom teacher, campus leader, and district administrator. A founding member of TRL-TX, Dr. Coté has been involved with the chapter since its earliest days. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving literacy outcomes through evidence-aligned instruction. Her expertise spans elementary literacy, dyslexia services, special education, and the development of effective multi-tiered systems of support grounded in the science of reading.
“The appointment of Dr. Coté is a meaningful step forward for The Reading League and our entire chapter network,” said Dr. Maria Murray, president and chief executive officer of The Reading League. “Texas is home to many outstanding reading researchers and literacy advocates, and we’re proud to be a part of the momentum for the science of reading in this great state.”
In her new role, Dr. Coté will work closely with educators, district and campus leaders, and partners across the state to further The Reading League Texas’ mission and expand its impact. Her leadership will focus on collaboration, educator capacity-building, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality literacy instruction for all students. The move comes as Texas continues to implement evidence-aligned literacy initiatives and improve reading outcomes.
“After 30 years in Texas public education, I have seen how powerful evidence-aligned literacy instruction can be for both teachers and students,” said Dr. Patty Coté, executive director of The Reading League Texas. “Equally critical is empowering school leaders with a deep understanding of the science of reading and evidence-aligned literacy instruction, because when leaders are equipped with this knowledge, they can drive sustainable instructional change that supports teachers and accelerates student success. I am excited to build on the strong foundation laid by our volunteers and to work alongside educators to ensure every child in Texas has the opportunity to become a proficient reader.”
