Call for Submissions

The Reading League Journal uses a curated submission process. Authors are invited to submit a summary for consideration in an upcoming issue. Selected authors will be invited to develop and submit a full manuscript aligned with each themed issue.

Submissions for 2026 issues are now closed.

Submission details for our 2027 issues are outlined below.
Please note that we do not include original research reports or descriptions of classroom practices that do not directly apply scientific findings.

2027 Themed Issues (Volume 8)

  • Volume 8(1) — Jan/Feb 2027
Systems to Foster Science of Reading
This issue will highlight the systems, structures, and policies that support the implementation of evidence-aligned reading instruction. Submissions may address leadership, professional learning, infrastructure, and scaling efforts that promote sustained impact.
  • Volume 8(2) — May/June 2027
    Deimplementation: Debunked or Ineffective Practices
This issue will examine practices that are misaligned with current evidence and explores how educators and systems can move away from ineffective approaches. We welcome manuscripts that address identifying, reducing, and replacing practices that do not support strong reading outcomes.
  • Volume 8(3) — Sept/Oct 2027
    Secondary Learners
This issue will focus on reading development and instruction for adolescent learners. We seek contributions that address the unique instructional, motivational, and contextual needs of secondary students, including those with or at-risk for reading difficulties.
