The Reading League has hired Melanie Hazelwood as its National Chapter Director, the Syracuse-based nonprofit announced.
Hazelwood will oversee the growth and development of state chapters focused on improving literacy outcomes through evidence-aligned reading instruction across the country.
She brings more than 25 years of education experience spanning classroom teaching, instructional coaching, and statewide policy implementation. Most recently, Hazelwood served as director of the literacy center at the Indiana Department of Education, where she led initiatives to advance evidence-aligned reading instruction statewide.
Hazelwood holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in reading education, and a second master’s degree in teaching with a specialization in special education. She lives in Bloomington, Indiana.
