Essentials of Fluency Instruction and Assessment

A hallmark of skilled reading is the ability to read text fluently. This includes being able to recognize words automatically and effortlessly, and reading them with appropriate prosody and expression. In this session, educators will deepen their knowledge of the importance of fluency—from kindergarten through high school—and learn how they can use assessments to measure students’ fluency and track their progress. Participants will also learn a wide variety of evidence-aligned instructional routines for developing students’ fluency, including multi-day routines that they can easily integrate into their current instruction.
