About the Workshop
This two-day virtual workshop introduces the research-based Knowledge Acquisition and Transformation (KAT) framework, developed by Dr. Kay Wijekumar and colleagues at Texas A&M University.
Designed for PreK–12 teachers, coaches, and instructional leaders, this practice-based experience provides evidence-aligned strategies to strengthen comprehension instruction, leverage existing materials, and build student motivation and achievement. You will leave with practical tools and a clear, actionable path to improve reading outcomes for every learner.

Two-Day Overview:
Day 1: KAT Introduction, core constructs of reading comprehension, model lessons & practice opportunities with a focus on expository texts.
Day 2: Multiple model lessons & practice opportunities with a focus on fiction texts and poetry, teacher resource library overview, reflection & questions.
