About the Workshop
This two-day virtual workshop introduces the research-based Knowledge Acquisition and Transformation (KAT) framework, developed by Dr. Kay Wijekumar and colleagues at Texas A&M University.

Designed for PreK–12 teachers, coaches, and instructional leaders, this practice-based experience provides evidence-aligned strategies to strengthen comprehension instruction, leverage existing materials, and build student motivation and achievement. You will leave with practical tools and a clear, actionable path to improve reading outcomes for every learner.

Two-Day Overview:

Day 1: KAT Introduction, core constructs of reading comprehension, model lessons & practice opportunities with a focus on expository texts.

Day 2: Multiple model lessons & practice opportunities with a focus on fiction texts and poetry, teacher resource library overview, reflection & questions.

No, full participation in breakout rooms and practice opportunities is required for certificate of attendance and digital resource folder. This workshop is designed to provide practice and feedback in small groups so you can be confident implementing what you learned in the classroom.

Yes, at the completion of day two, a digital teacher resource library will be emailed to you. You will also receive an invitation to a free, virtual monthly KAT chat to continue your implementation journey.

A certificate of attendance documenting 15 hours of credit will be emailed to you upon completion of the two-day workshop.
